What Is Google Search Console?
Google Search Console (GSC) is a free platform from Google that shows you exactly how your website performs in Google Search — which queries you rank for, which pages get clicks, and what technical problems Google finds when crawling your site.
Think of it as your direct line to Google. While third-party tools estimate your traffic and rankings, GSC shows you the real data — straight from Google’s own systems. Every serious SEO professional uses it. There’s no substitute.
Originally called Google Webmaster Tools, Google rebranded it to Search Console in 2015 and has steadily added features since. Over 10 million websites have verified their property in GSC, making it the most widely used SEO tool on the planet — and it costs nothing.
Why Does Google Search Console Matter?
GSC is the only tool that gives you verified, first-party data about your Google search performance. Everything else is an estimate.

Performance Reports
The Performance report is the most-used feature. It shows clicks, impressions, average CTR, and average position for every query and page. You can filter by date range, country, device, search appearance, and query type. Coverage / Indexing Reports
The Pages report (formerly Coverage report) shows the indexing status of every URL Google knows about on your site. Pages fall into categories: indexed, excluded, errors, and valid with warnings. If Google is crawling a page but choosing not to index it, this report tells you why — duplicate content, noindex tag, canonical pointing elsewhere, or “crawled — currently not indexed.”
URL Inspection Tool
