What is a broken link checker?

A broken link checker requests every link on a page and reports the ones that no longer work. Links break when pages are moved or deleted, when a site changes its URL structure, or when another website goes offline. This checker tests each link live and tells you which to fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

We read the page, collect its unique links (up to 200) and request each one from our server, following redirects. Links that return 4xx or 5xx status codes or do not respond are broken; links that reach a working page through a redirect are listed as redirected.

Some sites refuse automated requests: LinkedIn answers 999, others answer 401, 403 or 429, especially behind bot protection. That does not mean the link is broken. Open those links in your browser to confirm.

This tool checks one page at a time. To find broken links across your site, our free sitemap generator crawls up to 500 pages and lists broken pages it finds, and theStacc's site audit checks every page.

Broken links send visitors to dead ends and waste search engines' time on your site. Links that redirect still work but add a hop; update them to the final URL.

No. We read the page when you click the button, send the results to your browser and keep nothing. The tool is free with no sign-up; each visitor can run a limited number of checks in a short period.
