What is a schema checker?

Structured data (schema markup) is code on a page that tells search engines what the page is about: a product with a price, a local business with an address, an article with an author. A schema checker reads that code and checks it against the rules search engines apply, so you find errors before they cost you a rich result.

How it works

  1. Enter a page.
  2. We read its structured data: every JSON-LD block, plus microdata and RDFa types.
  3. You see each item's errors and warnings, with the JSON-LD shown and colour-coded.

Frequently Asked Questions

It reads every JSON-LD block on the page, reports blocks that are not valid JSON, and checks each item against Google's rules for its type: Article, Product, LocalBusiness and its subtypes, Organization, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, Event, Recipe, VideoObject, Review, JobPosting, SoftwareApplication, Course, HowTo and WebSite. It also lists types found as microdata or RDFa.

An error means the item is missing a field Google requires for that rich result, or the JSON cannot be read, so it cannot appear as a rich result. A warning is a recommended field; adding it can make the result more complete.

Since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites, and it stopped showing HowTo rich results. The markup is still valid and still describes your page.

Not from reviews you mark up about your own business. Google does not show review stars for LocalBusiness or Organization markup describing itself. Collect reviews on your Google Business Profile instead.

No. Google's test renders the page with JavaScript and reports exactly what Google sees. This checker reads the HTML your server sends, which is quick and shows the same main problems; use Google's test for final confirmation, especially if your schema is added by JavaScript.

No. We read the page when you click the button, send the results to your browser and keep nothing. The tool is free with no sign-up; each visitor can run a limited number of checks in a short period.
