A mother on leave opens Google at 10pm and searches “daycare near me”. She taps the first few listings, looks at photos, reads the two most recent reviews, and books tours with the ones that look like somebody is home. That whole sequence takes eleven minutes and decides your enrolment for the year.
What stings is that your centre is the better place. Your staff stay for years, your families become friends, your waiting list used to run long. None of that is visible on a listing whose last photo is from a Christmas party two years ago.
So you fill the gaps late, take a mixed age group you would rather not, and hold a room half open into October while payroll runs the same either way. One empty room is not a marketing problem, it is a budget problem, and it lasts the whole year.
And the parents who never toured you are not undecided. They are already settled somewhere else, telling their friends about it at the playground.
